DETROIT — Ford Motor sees opportunity to grow Mustang sales as it becomes the last American muscle car with a traditional V8 engine, playing to generations of gearheads who've been drawn to the performance vehicles. The optimism comes after Mustang's closest American competitors ended production of their muscle cars in December. Jeff Marentic, general manager of Ford Blue products, which includes the Mustang, said the pony car remains good business for the automaker both domestically and internationally. "For people who are looking for a true American sports car, it's available to them. … We're looking and talking about the future of Mustang, and how far we can grow it."

DETROIT — Canadian union Unifor and Stellantis have reached a tentative agreement early Monday morning, ending a brief strike that began after a deal wasn't reached by 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Details of the tentative agreement with Stellantis were not immediately available. The Canadian work stoppage comes nearly three weeks after Unifor launched a roughly 12-hour national strike against General Motors after the sides failed to reach a tentative agreement by a union-set deadline. The Canadian union is negotiating with each automaker separately and using a deal first reached last month with Ford as a pattern for GM and Stellantis. However, once the UAW reached a tentative agreement, which must still be ratified by members, Wednesday with Ford Motor , it has used that deal as a template for proposals with Stellantis and GM.

Juan J. Escalante, 58, an international construction equipment salesman living in Miami, on his 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T, as told to A.J. In 1969, my father Jose’s best friend moved to Detroit to work for Chrysler. After six months, he called and said to my father, “Why don’t you come up here? So my father sold his 1968 Dodge Dart, quit his job, and we moved as a family to Michigan when I was 4. My father went to school and then got a gig with a Chrysler supplier in Michigan.
Production ramped up slowly, but by 2017, Tesla was selling more than 100,000 a year of the Model S and its SUV sibling, the Model X. Similarly, pricing for the Model X SUV starts at about $98,000 but the smaller Model Y starts at just $47,000. Still, much like the S-class for Mercedes-Benz, the Model S remains Tesla’s flagship model, representing the brand. In fact, within its competitive class, the Tesla Model S and X are good sellers. By this point in their long lives, the Tesla Model S and X have become a stream of fairly steady profits, said Cox.
I could take a ride in what will soon be America’s last gasoline-powered muscle car with the woman who’s in charge of getting it into production and onto the street. Courtesy FordTransou and others at Ford will tell you there is an electric Mustang, the Mustang Mach-E SUV. As we took off, there was a burst of speed and throaty V8 engine noise as we blasted down Manhattan’s 10th Avenue. First, it’s the only actual car Ford currently sells in the United States. About 40% of V8 Mustang buyers get a manual transmission, she said, going for that truly classic driving experience.
Stellantis had earlier announced it would stop production of the larger Dodge Challenger at the end of this year. Around the same time, Dodge executives revealed an electric muscle car concept car that, they said, provided a preview of a future model. GM has not announced any future versions of the Camaro, although it teased that there will be some future for the brand. After five generations of redesigned models, the Camaro was dropped from the lineup in 2002, but brought back in 2010. These muscle cars or pony cars are also among the last car models – as opposed to SUVs or trucks – manufactured by the three automakers.

The unveiling of the 1,025 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has been long anticipated, and long delayed. Dodge had originally expected to just modify the Dodge Challenger Demon engine, which is capable of producing up to 840 horsepower. The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 can reach 60 miles per hour in under two seconds. DETROIT — Dodge is resurrecting its controversial muscle car model, the Challenger SRT Demon, as a final special edition of the vehicle before production of the brand's current V8 engine cars ends later this year. The limited-edition drag racing car will be the fastest, most powerful version of the Dodge Challenger ever produced by the automaker. It builds upon a 2018 Challenger SRT Demon model that some criticized for being too powerful and barely street legal. Dodge says the new car will deliver 1,025 horsepower and 945 foot-pounds of torque on E85 ethanol blend fuel. The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 will start at the diabolically evocative price of $96,666 — the last three figures are a reference to the devil — but it can top $120,000 or more with fees, options and accessories, according to Dodge.
A Kentucky car dealership had four Dodge Challenger Hellcats stolen from its showroom and two from its lot in about 40 seconds, reports say. The dealership manager told local outlets the thieves were gone 20 seconds before the alarm went off. Police arrested one teenage suspect for the $600,000 heist, officials said. Surveillance footage depicting the theft of three of the vehicles inside the dealership's showroom is now going viral online. So far, five of the six stolen vehicles have been recovered in various nearby counties and other states, officials said.

REUTERS/Toru Hanai/File PhotoWASHINGTON, Dec 9 (Reuters) - A U.S. auto safety regulator on Friday said it had confirmed a new crash death from a faulty air bag in a Honda (7267.T) car, as it urged owners to get recall repairs completed. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it had confirmed that the February death of the driver of a 2002 Honda Accord in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was due to a faulty air bag inflator. Four Takata air bag deaths have been confirmed this year, including two Stellantis (STLA.MI) vehicles and one Ford (F.N) vehicle. Also last month, the NHTSA confirmed a new death due to a defective Takata air bag inflator in a 2006 Ford (F.N) Ranger pickup. Last year, the NHTSA opened a probe into 30 million vehicles built by nearly two dozen automakers that have potentially defective Takata air bag inflators.

Alanis KingThe Nevera is a $2.1 million electric supercar from Rimac, a Croatian carmaker founded in 2009 by the now 34-year-old Mate Rimac. Rimac AutomobiliThe Nevera has four electric motors — one for each wheel — that, combined, make 1,914 horsepower and 1,741 pound-feet of torque. "The car will step out a little," they said, referring to the slide a car's wheels do when they begin to lose traction.
Stellantis has issued a 'Do Not Drive' warning on around 276,000 vehicles, the NHTSA announced. The issue relates to a fault with Takata airbags, which can cause them to explode. Over 67 million vehicles fitted with Takata airbags have been subject to recalls over the last decade, per The NHTSA's website. Ford began replacing airbags in 2.6 million vehicles in April 2021. "Left unrepaired, recalled Takata air bags are increasingly dangerous as the risk of an explosion rises as vehicles age.
Stellantis said replacement driver-side air bags have been available for the vehicles subject to the stop driving notice since 2015. Stellantis said a Takata air bag was suspected in a third death. “Left unrepaired, recalled Takata air bags are increasingly dangerous as the risk of an explosion rises as vehicles age,” said NHTSA Acting Administrator Ann Carlson. Last year, the NHTSA opened a probe into 30 million vehicles built by nearly two dozen automakers that have potentially defective Takata air bag inflators. The 30 million vehicles that are part of the 2021 investigation have inflators with a “desiccant” or drying agent.
WASHINGTON, Nov 3 (Reuters) - Chrysler-parent Stellantis (STLA.MI) is urged owners of 276,000 older U.S. vehicles to immediately stop driving after three crash deaths tied to faulty Takata air bag inflators were reported in the last seven months. Stellantis said replacement driver-side air bags have been available for the vehicles subject to the stop driving notice since 2015. More than 30 deaths worldwide and hundreds of injuries in various automakers' vehicles are linked to Takata air bag inflators that can explode, unleashing metal shrapnel inside cars and trucks. Stellantis said a Takata air bag was suspected in a third death. Joy Curran , an executive assistant at Johnson & Johnson living in North Brunswick, N.J., on her 1970 Plymouth AAR ‘Cuda, as told to A.J. Growing up in New Jersey, my father and my mother’s brother had quite a few muscle cars, and by age 6, I was hooked. In particular, I gravitated to Chrysler muscle cars like the Dodge Challenger and the Plymouth Barracuda. I was able to save some money, and the first car I bought, when I was 16, was a 1970 Challenger. But unfortunately because I had a part-time job and school, I was not able to pay for the upkeep.
CNN —As the big Chrysler 300 sedan, with its trademark large square grille, approaches the end of an 18-year production run, the brand unveiled a special edition model in Detroit last Tuesday night. This special edition will be the most powerful 300 offered by a wide margin. The bigger, more powerful 6.2-liter engine used in the limited edition 300C is used in the sportier Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack, which is not a limited edition model. But the Dodge Charger and the closely related Challenger are offered with those far more powerful supercharged engines. Those models are using all the supercharged engines the Mexican factory can make, said Elshoff.
That's because despite the EV transition, Mustang is sticking with gas-powered engines for the seventh-generation vehicle in 2024. "People are leaving the segment, like Dodge, so we have a chance to really present something new about Mustang," Farley said following the 2024 Mustang debut. Farley and Ford Chair Bill Ford declined to say whether the seventh-generation Mustang is expected to be the last gas-powered version of the car. The Mach-E, which shares little to nothing with the gas-powered Mustang other than a name, has led Ford to become the second bestselling brand of EVs in the country. U.S. President Joe Biden stands next to a Ford Mustang Mach-E (electric) SUV during a visit to the Detroit Auto Show, to highlight electric vehicle manufacturing in America, in Detroit, Michigan, September 14, 2022.

The new Mustang will be offered only with pure gasoline power, at least for now. The new Mustang will be offered with a big 5.0-liter V8 engine or a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine just as in today’s Mustang. The new Ford Mustang has the familiar shape but with a more chiseled-looking exterior design. Since then, though, Ford has introduced fully electric cars, like the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV and the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup, as well as plug-in hybrids. Along with a 500 horsepower V8 engine, the Mustang Dark Horse will have various suspension improvements, as well as dark tinted headlight covers and other visual cues.
